Malone Given Parsons assisted the City of Brampton through the Mount Pleasant community Secondary Plans process.
Located adjacent to the Mount Pleasant GO Station, the future community of Mount Pleasant was envisioned to be a transit-oriented community built on the principles of sustainable development. Land uses were organized around a natural heritage system that was defined through extensive study and consultation with the key City staff and the conservation authority. The community master plan has been planned to achieve a density in excess of the Growth Plan’s greenfield development requirement with a population of approximately 35,000 people and 6,500 jobs, which translates into a density between 55 to 60 people and jobs combined per net hectare. As a showcase community in Brampton, the Mount Pleasant Secondary Plan has been planned to embody the principles of transit-oriented design, complete communities, economic feasibility and environmental sustainability.
Malone Given Parsons provided a comprehensive review of the technical studies and planning process and to assist in defining a land-use structure and associated policies that would guide development in the Mount Pleasant Secondary Plan. The Compendium Analysis prepared by Malone Given Parsons analyzed the results of the various technical studies and planning decisions in a comprehensive manner and identified how an integrated and balanced approach that deals with the economic, community and environmental sustainability was achieved. Malone Given Parsons assisted the City in presenting and gaining support for the Secondary Plan and associated OPA from approval agencies, conservation authority, the public, the steering committee and City Council. Malone Given Parsons coordinated the preparation of an animated presentation of a 3D model of the future community.
